Carl R. Woese Undergraduate Research Scholar

The Carl R. Woese Undergraduate Research Scholar Program offers University of Illinois undergraduate students the opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary research at the Institute.

This program has been established to honor the memory of Carl Woese, who was a distinguished founding member of the Institute for Genomic Biology. The successful applicant will conduct research on a full time basis over a 10 week period of time during the summer, and will be paid on an hourly basis up to a total of $4,500.

Program Requirements

  • Applicants are expected to be engaged full-time in their research project at the IGB over the summer.
  • A progress report, not to exceed one (1) page in length, must be completed at the midpoint of the summer and a final report, not to exceed two (2) pages in length, must be completed at the end of the summer.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Recipient shall be an undergraduate student in good standing at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
  • Recipient must be enrolled for the spring 2017 semester.
  • Applicants should not be registered for summer classes if intending to pursue the scholarship.
  • Applicants must have previously worked in the lab of an IGB faculty member or affiliate member.
  • Individuals who have received their bachelor's degree in Spring 2017 are not eligible.
  • Applications must be received by March 17, 2017. All the application materials must be submitted by noon Central Time on the application closing date. Recipients will be contacted on or around May 17, 2017.

Application

Applicants must complete the below application form, provide a CV, and a description of the proposed research project. The research description should not exceed two single spaced pages. The research project can be in any area of research that takes place at the IGB. The successful proposal will be understandable to a broad audience.
