IR Laser Light Source

The Microscopy and Imaging Facility now has a new near IR laser light source (685 and 780 nm diode lasers) connected to our Zeiss Apotome Microscope with appropriate filter sets. These excitations were chosen to excite Molecular Targeting Technologies Inc., (http://www.mtarget.com/) CellVue Burgundy (685 nm) and CellVue NIR815 (786 nm). Originally designed for quantitative analysis in an automated imaging system such as LiCor Odyssey imaging system these dyes target the cell membranes, and can be used in samples, which have auto fluorescence making visible light excitation probes impossible to use. These dyes also work well in combination with other probes excited in the visible range. The custom built light source is designed with the ability to hold three additional laser diodes when new wavelengths are needed.
