This is a newly hatched first instar honey bee larva. The goal of this project is to develop a system to rear honey bees in the laboratory using advanced robotics. Once established, the system will be used to study how parasites, pathogens, pesticides and nutrition interact to affect bee health. This research is supported by a grant from DARPA and is conducted by Julia Fine, William Streyer, Ran Chao and Nathan Beach in the laboratory of Gene Robinson.
