Join us for an introductory workshop on the grand challenge research competition.
Abbott and the University of Illinois have just established the first-ever interdisciplinary nutrition and cognition research center which will be located on the Urbana campus. The Center for Nutrition, Learning, and Memory (CNLM) will advance pioneering research on the impact of nutrition on learning and memory in the human brain, supported by a grant of up to $50 million over five years.
The Center will direct and oversee an annual Grand Challenge research competition that is designed to uncover the most innovative scientific research relating to nutrition’s role in learning and memory.
We are looking for scientists on Illinois’ Urbana campus to submit proposals and participate in this exciting challenge. To learn more, please attend the informative workshop that is being held on two different dates (November 28 or November 29).

This exhibit showcases some of the original tools used by Professor Carl R. Woese, 2003 recipient of the Crafoord Prize, and the team of scientists at the University of Illinois-Champaign who conducted groundbreaking work in the use of molecular signatures to map the evolutionary history of life. The work of this team led, eventually, to the discovery of the Archaea, the third domain of life.
