steam train

In this collaboration between IGB, Franklin STEAM Academy, and Uni High, students envision, design, and conduct their own research projects based on topics they are personally interested in pursuing. Guidance and mentorship are provided by high school students and Illinois scientists. With the assistance of their near-peer mentors, younger students are taught to form hypotheses, refine testable questions, collaborate, and lead explorations of their own ideas, often crossing boundaries of various disciplines.

Can I volunteer to mentor a group at STEAM TRAIN?

Yes, if you are a University of Illinois Student or Uni High School student you can volunteer. Please fill out a volunteer form if you are interested.

When does STEAM TRAIN take place?

Weekly on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 pm.

What have been some past steam train projects?

Candy Launch, 3-D printed novel board game, magnetically-powered trebuchet, ecological experiment with fish, coding a game, and many more!
