Training

Who needs to take the online safety training?

Researchers are required to take the Division of Research Safety Online General Laboratory Safety Training, the Division of Research Safety Online Understanding Biosafety Training, and the IGB Safety training for researchers.

Lab workers who will not be performing research are required to take the Division of Research Safety Online General Laboratory Safety Training, the Division of Research Safety Online Understanding Biosafety Training, and the IGB training for laboratory workers not performing research.

Users of the Core Facilities who are not also working in the IGB are required to take the Division of Research Safety Online General Laboratory Safety Training, and the Division of Research Safety Online Understanding Biosafety Training.

Faculty are not required to take the online safety training, but are strongly encouraged to review minimally the training slides for researchers, as this training includes a lot of building safety information and the IGB-specific requirements. The Division of Research Safety Online General Laboratory Safety Training provides general lab safety information and some campus safety policies and procedures. The Division of Research Safety Online Understanding Biosafety defines a broader scope of safe practices, administrative procedures, protective equipment, and facility design to eliminate or reduce exposure to biohazardous organisms and their products.

Note: Those who need to take the DRS online General Laboratory Safety Training and Understanding Biosafety Training need to print out hard copies of the certificates to get IGB keys or key card access. No printout is necessary for the IGB safety exam. If you have already taken the DRS exams, you can go to the DRS website and print out additional certificates without retaking the exams.

If you will only be using the IGB Core Facilities, DRS trainings and exams are all you need to take.

Please take the IGB HOSTED TRAINING above first.
