IGB Hosts 2nd Annual Genome Day at Orpheum Children’s Science Museum

In November of 2013 more than 480 children, parents, and friends of the Institute for Genomic Biology attended the 2nd annual Genome Day, a day of learning about genomes, genes, DNA, and evolution at the Orpheum Children’s Science Museum in Champaign.

More than 100 volunteers helped run 14 child-friendly activities related to genetics, including learning how organisms relate to each other on the Tree of Life, or extracting strawberry and banana DNA to make necklaces. Volunteers from SACNAS (Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science) provided bilingual volunteers for the day.
