Meet the artist
May 4th from 10am-2pm

The IGB’s Art of Science program is a celebration of the common ground between science and art. Images from Illinois research were the starting point for these works, which were created by researchers working in partnership with current IGB artist Julia Pollack. These pieces are the result of conversations between the scientists and the artist, and are an abstract visual exploration to highlight the power and aesthetics of science imagery.

This year’s exhibit, titled “Eidolon,” is the study of Nature’s mysteries. All scientists stand at the edge of known ways; behind them is the accumulated knowledge of their peers and preceptors, and in front of them lies a fog of questions. Whether that fog dissipates to reveal clear answers or thickens leaving more questions, they forge unknown paths, feeling and fighting their way toward the light of discovery.

Beyond thy lectures learn’d professor,
Beyond thy telescope or spectroscope observer keen, beyond all mathematics,
Beyond the doctor’s surgery, anatomy, beyond the chemist with his chemistry,
The entities of entities, eidolons.
-Walt Whitman

The exhibit will remain in Cafeteria & Company through the summer.
