Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program

Academics and business leaders are realizing that science, technology and business are no longer separate entities, but actually require each other to thrive. The IGB strives to provide postdoctoral researchers, students, and faculty with an environment, resources, networking and the exposure necessary to become a successful innovator and entrepreneur.

Campus Resources

Office of Technology Management (OTM)

Assisting in the protection and licensing of University intellectual property, OTM provides numerous resources including disclosure forms to support commercialization of your technology, and the Inventor's Handbook, an introduction to the University’s intellectual property policies, patenting and commercialization services, intellectual property fundamentals, and the inventor’s role.

 

Entrepreneurial Opportunities

Professional Skills for Careers in Biosciences (PSCB)
The IGB's workshop-based certificate program intended for graduate students and postdocs to develop and enhance their universal job skills.

Catherine and Don Kleinmuntz Center for Genomics in Business and Society (Kleinmuntz Center)
Provides unique opportunities for economic development including a pre-commercialization Proof-of-Concept program named the Mikashi Awards.

Technology Entrepreneur Center (TEC)
Offering on-campus and online courses and certificate programs.

Research Park
A technology hub for corporate research and development operations and startup companies, including tech incubator EnterpriseWorks.

 

IGB Economic Development Fellow

Dr. Cecilia Gentle, the IGB's Economic Development Fellow, is available for consultations on filling out disclosure forms, or to present to research groups and other interested parties on the disclosure process. Contact Dr. Gentle at gentle2@illinois.edu

 

Lectures

Fox Family Innovation and Entrepreneurship Lecture Series
The Fox family and the IGB have partnered to bring a series of speakers to discuss all aspects of innovation and entrepreneurship. Past speakers have included members from the Office of Technology Management and the Technology Entrepreneur Center on campus, to external speakers from public and private industry.
