Schook Lab Welcomes Ying and Yang

….two excellent additions to our staff, Ying Liang, our new research assistant professor; and Fang Yang, our nutritional science graduate research assistant.
Ying Liang comes to us from the Hematology/Oncology Division, Markey Cancer Center at University of Kentucky where she was a Postdoctoral Scholar and Research Assistant.  Ying is noted for her work with “latexin”, the first identified stem cell quantitative gene responsible for the natural variation of hematopoietic stem cell numbers.
In 2008, Ying was awarded the Becton Dickinson (BD) Bioscience Grant Award. She has published a variety of articles and book chapters, and has taught at Beijing’s Medical University, China in the Physiology Department.
Ying credits Gary Van Vant as her mentor and together they submitted En vivo and in vivo methods and related compositions for regenerating hematopoietic stem cell populations in 2005 for a patent, which is pending.

Fang Yang received her Master of Science degree in Animal Nutrition and Feed Science in 2007 from China Agricultural University, China.  She is currently pursuing a Ph D. from the Division of Nutritional Sciences, University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign
Fang’s most recent publication is: Yang, F., J.J. Wang, X. J. Li, T.Y. Ying, S.Y. Qiao,  D.F. Li and G.Y. Wu. 2007 Two- dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry analysis of interactions between Lactobacilluys fermenttum I 5007 and intestinal epithelial cells. Electrophoresis 28: 4330-4339

We are very pleased that both Ying Liang and Fang Yang are now part of the Schook lab and invite you to help them get acquainted with the lab and to the University of Illinois.
