Proof of Concept

The Catherine and Don Kleinmuntz Center for Genomics in Business and Society (Kleinmuntz Center) is excited to continue to support innovation and commercialization taking place here at the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology. As a result, the Kleinmuntz Center will be again providing resources to support faculty with their innovations with their pre-commercialization Proof-of-Concept (POC) program, the Mikashi Awards.

Pre-proposal applications for funding are being accepted now through February 27, 2015

This program helps bridge the gap between University innovations and the marketplace by funding development that will demonstrate an innovation's market viability to potential investors and partners. 

I-POC projects consist of a defined set of milestones that, when completed, help overcome a specific hurdle to an innovation's transfer outside of the University. 

The Institute for Genomic Biology is happy to announce the award recipients in the 2012 IGB Proof of Concept (POC) Initiative.  There is a well-known funding gap between basic laboratory research and the resulting commercial products.  Proof of Concept (POC) funding has proven to be a crucial element in bridging this so called “valley of death” between research and development.  The goal of POC funding is to “de-risk” an invention such that the technology is more attractive for either (1) licensing to an existing company or (2) enabling the formation for a startup company tha

The Institute for Genomic Biology, with support from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR), is pleased to announce a call for proposals for Proof of Concept (POC) funding. The IGB POC initiative aims to foster downstream capitalization of research and enable innovative technologies to reach important milestones which may accelerate their translation into licensable products and services.
