Thank you for your interest in the FLUdetect Study!
The FLUDetect study aims to define the relationships between respiratory virus shedding, the host immune response to infection, and disease symptoms in people infected with influenza A virus or other common respiratory viruses. This information is critical for designing next-generation vaccines that can better protect against respiratory viruses and future pandemics.
If you decide to take part in this research study, you will be asked to:
- Provide monthly blood draws (weeks 0, 4, 8, 12, and 14)
- Provide twice weekly nasal swabs for testing on campus
If you test positive for infection during the study period of 16 weeks, you will also be asked to:
- Complete a daily symptom experience survey
- Provide daily saliva and nasal swab samples for 14 days
- Provide up to 4 additional blood draws over six months (days 7, 14, 28, and 6 months)
Your participation in this study will conclude either at the end of the 16-week screening period (for participants who never test positive for infection) or after the 6-month post-infection blood draw (for participants who do test positive for infection). In total, the study will have a duration of up to 10 months.
Compensation for your time and effort
You will be compensated for every sample provided, compensation up to $1450 upon completion of the study
