Web Hosting

 

Are you needing to host an informational website for your grant or lab?  What about a custom website that has a lot of data or requires back-end processing?  Below are the options available to you.

Options for IGB Members

IGB Drupal Server

The IGB Drupal Server hosts the main IGB website, https://www.igb.illinois.edu 

The IGB drupal server can be used to build websites for grants that are funded, such as https://kellnercenter.illinois.edu and https://ripe.illinois.edu

If you need more details or are interested in creating a site for a grant, please contact the Communications group for more details

IGB www-app Service

This is a service that is free for IGB members.

The www-app service consists of multiple servers, all running different versions of PHP, Python, and Ruby.  It also has a MySQL Database cluser backend if needed.  This service is for standard, well-supported web applications such as Bookstack, Redmine, and Booked Calendar, among many others.

If your web application requires more than a web frontend and database, we recommend using IGB's VM service instead.

Web Forms

IGB offers webforms created directly on the IGB website.  These forms should be permanent forms that are for repetitive administrative tasks.  It should also be for an audience of IGB personnel or for IGB services.  These forms cannot accept credit card payments.

Illinois Publish Web Hosting

This is a service provided by the University of Illinois for free.  This service is limited to Wordpress and available plugins and is perfect for a simple lab or group website.  All updates are maintained by campus.  To see more information, visit https://publish.illinois.edu

Illinois cPanel Web Hosting

This is also a service provided by the University of Illinois for free.  This services offers the option to easily install Wordpress or a few other standard web applications.  This is something that end users can use to set up and make a website themselves.  It is also the end users responsibility to maintain Wordpress installations and plugins.  The performance on this can be slow, but resources can potentially be increased. Web Forms

Illinois Webtools
Illinois Webtools is a good option for users who are looking to set up a web form on their own.  These webforms are permanent and perfect for surveys, seminar reviews, or workshop questionnaires.  These forms do not accept credit card payments.

Outlook Forms/Google Forms

These forms are quick and easy to set up, but should only be used for short-term web forms.  These forms are also deleted if the user who created them leaves.

AITS Form Building

AITS has an option to create a web form if you require credit card payments.  For example, if you are planning to collect conference/workshop fees, you will want to use the AITS Form Building.
