- Professional Skills for Careers in Biosciences (PSCB)

The PSCB workshop series is intended for graduate students and postdocs to develop and enhance their universal job skills, including communication, professionalism, marketing, budgeting, and leadership.
- Early Innovator Program

The Early Innovator Program (EIP) is a 10-week summer program hosted by the IGB, designed to teach participants the skills necessary to become innovative leaders in their fields, and to support IGB scientists in considering creative ways to bring science to society.
- IGB Outreach Certificate program

This program enables students and research trainees at the University of Illinois to formalize their science-related public engagement experiences and training by earning a certificate in science outreach.

- Postdoc Development Plan (PDP)

The PDP can assist IGB postdoctoral researchers to become independent, high-quality scientists with strong project management and administrative skills.

The Inclusive Excellence Award supports projects that showcase diverse ways of practicing science, provide ally training for researchers, create a culture of inclusion and wellness for IGB community members, and encourage participation from a broad range of perspectives and experiences. The award is open to all eligible members of the IGB community.

The Tracy Undergraduate Team Science Training Program (TTP) provides applied research training for undergraduate students in a series of 10 specially designed activities over the course of an academic year.
- Lunchbox Series

The Lunchbox is an event series centered on food that consists of monthly seminars from Illinois faculty, staff, and community members that are paired with special meals prepared by chefs at Bevier Café. Through a universal appreciation for food, the program seeks to create an inclusive community that encompasses people from different cultural backgrounds.

The Professional and Leadership Development Advisory Group helps create a more inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment within the IGB for all members of our community. The PLD Advisory Group comprises IGB community members spanning the breadth of IGB, including theme leaders, faculty, staff and postdoctoral researchers.
- Translational Team Science Initiative (TTSI)

The Translational Team Science Initiative (TTSI) at Illinois advances research on how scientific teams collaborate, communicate, and drive innovation across institutional contexts. While interdisciplinary and convergence research are central to today’s scientific landscape, we still lack clear, evidence‑based understanding of which institutional resources and team practices truly strengthen collaboration and improve research outcomes. The mission for TTSI is to close this gap—which was highlighted in a recent National Academies report on the state of team science.
By studying real interdisciplinary teams in their everyday research environments, TTSI is building an empirical foundation to understand how science teams function and what helps them succeed. Our work examines how institutional resources shape collaboration, tests and refines team‑science assessment tools, and evaluates practical interventions to improve team dynamics, research integrity, and scientific productivity.

With faculty from over 30 departments on campus, the IGB is continually looking to involve new members to work in our multidisciplinary, thematic research themes. This includes assistant professors, who can scale their involvement to fit the needs of building their own lab, while still reaping the benefits of working at the IGB as outlined below.
