A section of a piglet hippocampus, a region of the brain that participates in memory formation, has been labeled with green dye in this image to show the location of NeuN. NeuN is a protein that is produced by neurons, but not by the support cells in the brain. The goal of this study was to determine how long a newly divided neuron takes to start producing NeuN.
