Art Lab Sketch Science April 2 2026
START:     END:

Gallery Bar, 119 West Main Street Urbana, Illinois, 61801

Join us for an evening of scientific illustration at our free workshop! State-of-the-art microscopes will be on display with biological samples for you to view and enjoy. We will begin by drawing microscope samples in pencil and then watercolor those drawings, in the tradition of scientific illustration. As you work, scientists from the IGB will be available to answer your questions about microscopy, biological sciences, and genomics. This work is supported in part by an Urbana Arts Grant.

If you will need disability-related accommodations in order to participate in this event, please contact Corinne Campbell at cannava2@illinois.edu or Julia Pollack at jpollac2@illinois.edu. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time to meet your access needs.

Science on Tap April 19, 2026

Art of Science 16 2026
START:     END:

Analog Wine Library, 129 N Race St, Urbana, IL

The IGB’s Art of Science program is a celebration of the common ground between science and art. Images from Illinois research were the starting point for these works, which were created by researchers working in partnership with IGB artist Julia Pollack. These pieces are the result of conversations between the scientists and the artist.

The show will run through the month of May.

The opening is free & open to the public

Science on Tap May 10, 2026
START:     END:

Riggs Beer Company, 1901 S High Cross Rd, Urbana, IL 61802

Science on Tap is a monthly seminar series that brings scientists to the public to talk about their research in an informal setting.

Sameh Tawfick is a Professor, Mechanical Science and Engineering, University of Illinois. Kinetic Materials possess unusual internal dynamics during manufacturing or during use. In Tawfick's lab they are interested in science-based manufacturing research based on self-curing, self-organization, and novel 3D printing. They study mechanical behavior which leverages geometry, actuation, morphing, micro-architecture, bio-inspired and robotic systems, and nonlinear dynamics responses.
