The Computer Tomography image processed for Isosurface in Imaris program showing a piece of jasperoid, which is an aggregate of quartz and Fe-oxide (hematite) crystallites. The Fe-oxide contains radiogenically created He atoms that could be used to determine the age of the jasperoid if the three-dimensional distribution of He atoms can be properly cataloged. These images, along with numerical modeling, will aid in that process. Jasperoid is often associated with economically important ores, such as gold, and so understanding a jasperoid’s age could help with mineral exploration.
