Grow Fish Online

Go Fish is a classic game of memory: players race to find and pair up matching cards. In nature, animals pair up and parent their offspring in fascinating ways. Try your hand at Grow Fish, which combines the fun of both.

Grow Fish is also available as a card game!

What is Grow Fish Online?

This digital version of Grow Fish is best for ages 7 and up. You will compete against several virtual players to collect the most animal pairs—mates with mates and parents with offspring.

What are the rules?

Each player starts with five cards. Each player in turn asks another player of their choice for a match for one of the cards in their hand. If this is not successful, the player draws a card from the central pool. Play continues until all the cards are paired, and the player with the most pairs wins.

How do I play?

Your hand will appear at the bottom of the screen. If there is a match in your hand, click on each card to pair them. Click on another player and then a card from your hand to ask them for a match; if they don’t have it, a card from the pool will be added to your hand. Use the arrow in the top right to move to the next turn. Don’t forget to pay attention to the other players’ turns, since you can learn about who has which cards! Use the button in the bottom left to respond to other plays with “Grow fish!” If another player asks you for a card in your hand, it will automatically be given to them.

What’s up with these animals?

The animals on these cards were selected to highlight many different parenting strategies found in nature. You can click on each card to see it up close, and read the poems and fun facts to learn more about the natural history of these animals.
